At the American Library Association conference I presented on a panel. I shared that every time I start a new book, I ask myself “how do I write a book again?” 13 books in, I thought it would be easier. Turns out, each book is as hard as Pashmina. (Although I did re-draw that book four times because it was my first full length graphic novel, I’m glad to never do THAT again.)
Thank you for sharing the awkward invisible part of your process! The jumps from idea to pitch to actually beginning the book don't seem daunting until one gets there. It feels important, reassuring, to hear that even seasoned pros find themselves wondering, "wait, what am I doing, even?"

I don't think I've met any other authors who know what they're doing even if they've published many books... writing is hard!
