It’s September and life is hectic. I haven’t submitted as many New Yorker comics as I did earlier this year because of life tumult. I drew the above comic this summer. Sometimes the art comes first - in this case, I felt like my face was melting in the heat. I workshopped the caption a hundred times and couldn’t settle on anything.
Meanwhile, the author copies of my forthcoming graphic novel, Super Boba Café have arrived.
It releases on October 24th (preorder here!) so, in the spirit of the New Yorker, I will offer an early copy of the book to the best caption for the above comic. If you don’t have a caption, please check out the comments and vote for your favorites!

Tomorrow Sept 13th, I will be in conversation with Remy Lai at Books Inc in Palo Alto to celebrate her new graphic novel, Ghost Book. The following week on Sept 20th I will be in conversation with Minh Lê and Chan Chau at Linden Tree to celebrate their new book, Enlighten Me - I hope to see you there!
I’ve had the pleasure of a few podcast interviews: Modern Minorities, Publishers Weekly (from the Comicon show floor) and Comics News Insider (also from Comicon).
I’m powering through an intense picture book deadline but to balance it, I started reading Dashka Slater’s new book, Accountable. Its deftly written and important. I’m listening to a lot of Ed Sheeran and Mason Jennings in preparation for their concerts.
And I am still in shock that it’s September.
But I am ecstatic for fall weather.
“I said I’d repair the air conditioner and I think it’s working just fine!”
"Before next summer, we're moving to Alaska!"
