Yesterday I spoke to kids from Cambodia to Maryland for World Read Aloud Day, which is one of my favorite days of the year. I overcommit and love every minute of it. I talk about books and read to hundreds of kids across the globe without leaving my studio.
I also meet dedicated and lovely educators and it’s such a joy.
Sparkles, the star cat in our house, will often make a guest appearance and derail my presentation. The kids don’t seem to mind, though :)
If time permits I draw with the kids and it’s wonderful to see their art.
Here are some gems:
So far, the year is non-stop. But it’s a good, strong start.
I was happy to hear that Super Boba Café is a finalist for a Golden Kite award from the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. I’m in great company with four other finalists, Curlfriends (New in Town) by Sharee Miller, The Faint of Heart by Kerilynn Wilson, A First Time for Everything by Dan Santat, and A Sky of Paper Stars by Susie Yi.
I’m trying to lean into the busy, enjoy this life of events, travel and connection. And also recognize that it’s necessary to take breaks in bed with snacks.
I’m aiming for bed snack balance.
Bed Snack Balance, your best-selling How To Be an Author book, coming soon.
